Partners & Experience
The following list gives a sampling of the depth and range of my work.
Deep South Community Agriculture Network. I provided technical assistance, support, and capacity to strengthen member organizations’ ability to build agricultural value chains that would increase: 1) wealth access for Mississippi & Alabama low-resource minority farmers; 2) healthy food access in rural communities; and 3) entrepreneurial and job opportunities in agriculture. Specifically, I:
Develop common measurement and data collections tools that are grounded in the knowledge of these grassroots organizations
Coordinate gatherings and learning journeys that were both peer learning opportunities for Network members
Facilitate peer learning opportunities, monthly meetings, and quarterly gatherings
Develop and execute a communication strategy that included designing a website and producing a video
Work with partners to create work plans equipped with target dates, point person(s), and progress check-ins
The Appalachian Transition Fellowship. I worked in partnership with Highlander Research and Education Center to vision, research, implement, and launch a cross-regional, cross-sector fellowship called the Appalachian Transition Fellowship (AppFellows). This fellowship works to increase the capacity, collaboration, and connectivity of Central Appalachian leaders and organizations to promote a just and sustainable economy. I worked collaboratively to develop:
A curriculum, recruitment strategy, and evaluation tools for the program.
Relationships between non-profits, colleges and universities, businesses, philanthropy, and government agencies to encourage collaboration and partnerships beyond the fellowship
Strategy meetings with potential host communities not only to help expand project ideas, but also provide technical assistance with fundraising and relationship building between organizations across sectors
McIntosh SEED, Darien, Ga. I provide capacity and grant writing support
The Cottage House Inc., Ariton, AL. I helped to create a fundraising strategy and provided grant writing support concerning next generation leadership within agriculture.
Echoing Ida. I contribute critical essays as a part of Echoing Ida, a Black women blogging program backed by Forward Together that builds Black women's skills, increases their visibility on timely issues, and builds strong relationships among media professionals. Still Furious and Brave. I am the co-creator and a contributor of this blogging collective that produces critical essays about public scholarship, activism, and the experiences of people of color while emphasizing the importance of personal stories and empowerment in the South. The social media strategy we developed has garnered an international readership.
